How long do vets keep the pets after they fix them?

Butterfly asked:

How long do the vets keep the pets(cat or dog or kitten or pup) after they spayed or neutered the animal? Two days? Do they give them pain meds? Just curious is all.

Bring them in the morning, ready by about 4. They send home meds.

If its routine and nothing happens then they usually release them to you later that day. And yes they give them pain meds but you have to pay extra for it.

where i use to work, this was the schedule:

    cat neuters: no overnight stay
    cat spays: 1 night
dog neuters: 1 or 2 nights depending on size and age of dog
dog spays: 1 or 2 nights depending

all animals received pain medication and went home with pain meds. buprenex for cats and tramadol for dogs.

I just had my dogs fixed the female they kept 2 days. 1 male surgery was in the morning and he came home in the afternoon. The other male they kept overnight, of course this could all change due to unforseen issues.

My dog stayed overnight, they called me after his surgery and told me how things were going. I picked him up the next morning and they sent me home with meds and told me to keep him from jumping for a while. I felt better him staying overnight, that way the anesthia wore off and he was his normal self.
